This past weekend Arrow participated in the 23rd annual Bay Street Hoops Tournament in support of Kidsport and Drive for Dreams. We played in the Men’s Rec A Division (second highest) and pulled off a Cinderella run of 5 wins in a row en route to our first championship ever.
Our Team featured 5 players from Arrow and 5 recruits – some may call “ringers”! The first 3 games saw Arrow win by comfortable margins of +20 (kinda like Golden State) but then the injury bug and family stuff hit and we lost 4 players!!
The Cinderella portion can be seen in our semi-final win over a pesky Scotiabank team (click to watch video). Down to six players, we executed beautifully a game winning inbound play with Sam Pigott scoring with just 0.5 seconds left – of course the bankers protested but luckily a courtside fan filmed the shot and after review it was over. The momentum and several Red Bulls propelled us to a comfortable 10 point win in the final.
We are looking forward to defending our title next year. If you want to get involved check out the website www.baystreethoops.com and we will see you next year. Try to register early as it will likely sell out.
